LARC Aims for Bull’s Eye with 2010 Bead Collection
February 2010
LARC kicked off the 2010 Mardi Gras season with its annual Operation Bead Collection with a twist! – Hit the bull’s eye sign at their Johnston Street Mardi Gras Beads N More location.
Float riders and paradegoers were encouraged to hit the giant bull’s eye sporting the LARC logo during the Krewe of Rio parade on Saturday.
LARC Community Relations Director Susan Nini said the idea was just so obvious, “We collect beads in this giant box from Goodwill throughout the year.” Nini added, “It just seemed natural to borrow a box from them [Goodwill] and make the sign…what better way to collect beads than right on the parade route?”
Now that Mardi Gras is over, Operation Bead Collection is in full swing.
Beads can be dropped off at any Goodwill of Acadiana Store or at LARC’s Bead Stores – Acadian Village location and 1809 Johnston Street.
LARC Client Recognized as EDS Worker of the Year
December 2009
The Employment Development Services, Inc. of Louisiana (EDS) recently recognized Lacy Broussard as the 2009 First Place EDS Worker of the Year.
Lacy was recognized at a luncheon in Baton Rouge earlier in December, where he received an award plaque and a $1200.00 check.
Lacy is employed on a LARC mobile crew at the Brandywine State Building, where he performs janitorial duties. He has been on this crew since 1992. His work ethics, attendance, respect for others and his leadership role has helped him earn this recognition. Lacy said he was very excited to win the award and said he plans to treat his co-workers on the mobile crew.
According to Ted Bordelon, Executive Director of EDS, the choice of Lacy was an easy one. LARC Vocational Director Marty Davis echoed the sentiment, “We are all very proud of Lacy’s accomplishments – it was a well-deserved award!”
Each year, organizations statewide serving persons with disabilities nominate their best workers who are employed with Louisiana state contracts for the award. EDS then selects the Top 3 workers.
LARC is Declared Deficiency Free During State Survey
May 2009
LARC Vocational department was declared deficiency free during the annual, unscheduled survey from the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals State Licensing on May 5.
These unscheduled surveys take place at the service provider’s facility and are designed by State and Federal government entities to ensure quality of service to people with developmental disabilities. Agencies like LARC are granted licenses to provide services.
